Artist: Esther Birch

Esther Birch is a mixed media artist who aspires to examine and challenge how society imprison the individual in fixed categories of identity which are often suppressing. She attempts to symbolise a need for deconstructing the conventional perceptions that thrive in today’s society, and this is expressed through the torn cardboard that she re-composes into a collage of several layers, textures, and shapes. Furthermore, her distorted and surrealistic depictions of the human face and body, floating in and outside of each other, accentuate that together we embody one organism, in which acknowledgment of diversity and fluidity should be “constructed”.
